Technical summary

16-Bit 4-Channel ADS1115 ADC with Programmable Gain Amplifier: a precise, powerful and versatile A/D converter

The main idea of the ADS1115 16-Bit 4-channel ADC is to offer you a low-power, powerful and precise analog-to-digital converter that adapts to the conversions you need to perform.

You thus benefit from an excellent maximum data rate (860 SPS), which can also be programmed to be much lower. The internal programmable gain amplifier also lets you adapt your measurements to the signal strength by decreasing or increasing the supply voltage (from 256mV).

The supply voltage, between 2 and 5.5V, lets you adapt the microcontroller of your choice, Arduino or Raspberry Pi, among others. As for the transmission channels, they can be used as single-ended input channels (4) or differential channels (2). Finally, the I2C interface lets you select up to 4 slave addresses, and therefore connect 4 16-Bit ADCs to your microcontroller at the same time!

Using the 16-Bit 4-Channel ADS1115 ADC with Programmable Gain Amplifier

This converter is of course useful to anyone who does not have a microcontroller with an analog-to-digital converter. It can also be added to an existing ADC for more precise measurements on small and large signals.

Such a device can be used to create a temperature measuring instrument, an automatic or process control system, or even a battery charge level indicator. Its very small size allows it to fit into very compact portable projects.
