Technical summary
Description:
The DS3231 is an extremely accurate and low-cost I2C real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The device includes a battery input, disconnects the main power supply and maintains accurate timekeeping. The integrated oscillator improves the long-term accuracy of the device and reduces the number of components in the production line. The DS3231 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges, using a 16-pin 300mil SO package.
The RTC keeps seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month and year. For months of fewer than 31 days, the end date is automatically adjusted, including corrections for leap years. The clock operates in 24-hour format or in the 12-hour format with the /AM/PM band. It provides two configurable alarms and a calendar, and can be set to a square-wave output. Address and data are transferred serially over a bidirectional I2C bus.
A precision temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit monitors the state of the VCC connection to detect power failures, provide a reset output and, if necessary, switch automatically to the backup supply. In addition, the /RST pin is monitored as a manual reset generation.
Feature:
Save time and bring increased accuracy. The DS3231 also has other functions that extend the system host with additional features and a range of options. The device includes a very accurate digital temperature sensor, accessed through the I2C interface (at the same time). This temperature sensor accuracy is ±3°C. The on-chip power control circuit can automatically detect and manage the main and backup (low-voltage battery) supplies to switch between them. If the main power fails, the device can continue to provide accurate timing and temperature, performance is not affected. When the value of the voltage or the main supply voltage returns within the allowed range, the on-chip reset function can be used to restart the system microprocessor.
