Technical summary
The SW-520 tilt sensor is a device that provides a digital signal when the tilt exceeds a certain threshold. This type of sensor does not allow you to know the degree of tilt of the device; it simply acts as a sensor that closes beyond a certain angle. Because of their operating principle, these sensors are sensitive to sudden movements and vibrations in applications such as photography, home automation, energy, toys, robotics, control, etc.
These sensors used to be made by placing a drop of mercury inside a glass bulb, inside which the two conductors were housed. Beyond a certain tilt the mercury drop moves, closing the contact between the two conductors. Today, for environmental reasons, almost all mercury sensors have been replaced by double-ball tilt detectors.
There is a cylinder whose wall is one electrical contact, while the other contact is located in the center of the base. When the device is tilted far enough, the two balls form a bridge between the two contacts, closing the circuit. The signal picked up by the sensors can be carried directly to a control circuit such as the Arduino, among others.
Feature:
It detects changes in the sensor's angle and returns a digital value.
Sensitivity adjustable by potentiometer.
It uses an LM393 comparator.
Supply voltage: 3.3V to 5V DC.
Digital output (DO).
3mm hole for better mounting.
