Technical summary
The TSL2561 sensor is an advanced light sensor, ideal for use in a wide range of light-related applications. This sensor is more precise than a photoresistor (CdS) and allows an accurate calculation of luminosity (in lux). It can be configured for different gain/timing ranges to detect light on the fly between 0.1 and over 40.000lux.
The greatest advantage of this sensor lies in the fact that it contains two diodes: one infrared and one for the full light spectrum! This means that you can separately measure infrared light, the full spectrum or visible light (as seen by us humans). Most sensors can measure one or the other... which does not faithfully reproduce what human eyes perceive (since human eyes do not perceive infrared, which is nevertheless detected by most photodiodes).
This sensor has an (I2C) interface.
